``RM Re-Library'' reprints two to three volumes of past masterpieces from ` `RM LIBRARY '', which has a long history of over 260 issues. The 8th volume of the series focuses on the ``mail/baggage diesel railcars,'' which had a presence as a special-purpose minority among Japanese National Railways diesel railcars. Published as volumes 20 and 21 of the RM Library, we have also created 4 new pages of color graphs.

In later years, it became a minority among the large number of regular cars, but in fact, JNR's first diesel car was the Kihani 5000 class, a third-class luggage car. A small portion of the two- axle small car body was used as a luggage compartment, and this one car could serve as a passenger train on a quiet local line...that kind of idea can be seen. The Kihani 36450 type, which became the second diesel car, suddenly became a large car, but it was still a synthetic car that was designed for single-locomotive operation.

Full-scale spread began after the war, in the 1950s . This was needed when the previous passenger trains (which naturally connected baggage cars and mail cars) were converted to diesel cars. When the electric diesel rail car, which was initially only a prototype, was converted to a liquid type, the policy was adopted to convert it into a mail/baggage car as well. After that, modified hydraulic diesel cars and new cars appeared, and their unique styles were used from Hokkaido to Kyushu. It fulfilled its mission until the end of the Japanese National Railways era when mail and baggage transportation was abolished.

This book explains these mail and luggage railcars by type after broadly classifying them into the parent series. We also have complete documentation, including a wealth of format photos, format diagrams, history tables, and specifications tables. Particularly in groups of modified cars, there are always individual differences, but we have made it as easy as possible to make this as obvious as possible. The inside photos of mail and cargo transportation included at key points are extremely rare and will deepen your understanding of these vehicles, whose purpose has now disappeared. It is a highly accessible book and is valuable as a preserved copy.
