The Keio Teito Electric Railway 6000 series is a commuter train newly manufactured as a successor to the 5000 series (manufactured in 1963, 18m-class, 3-door), which was touted as "Keio's famous train." It is the first 20m-class, 4-door train (gauge: 1,372mm) for Keio. It was manufactured from 1972 until 1990, and in 1991, it was finally expanded to a 20m-class, 5-door train to shorten boarding and alighting times. It was used for a wide range of trains, from express trains on the Keio Line to local trains, and even on the Toei Subway Shinjuku Line, replacing the 5000 series as Keio's main train. It was taken out of service in 2011, and since the successor 7000 series adopted a stainless steel body, it was the last steel-bodied train for Keio, and the last car to be completely covered in ivory. This book focuses on the transition of the train formation from new production to its retirement, and follows the process.
