Book Overview

Few individuals have influenced as many facets of motorsport history as Pete Brock. Designer, racer, engineer, team owner, and visionary, his career spans some of the most exciting and transformative eras in American motorsports.
From beginning his career as the youngest designer ever hired by General Motors, to creating groundbreaking racing machines alongside Carroll Shelby, and eventually founding his own racing organization, Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE), Pete Brock continually redefined the meaning of performance, innovation, and racing spirit.
Among his many achievements, Pete Brock designed the legendary Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, the car that helped Shelby American secure the FIA World GT Championship in 1965. Yet Brock’s legacy extends far beyond a single iconic machine. Through BRE, he transformed Datsun into a dominant force on the American racing scene.
The BRE Datsun 510 and 240Z became symbols of precision engineering and racing excellence, while their red, white, and blue livery remains one of the most recognizable color schemes in motorsport history. But Pete Brock’s story is not merely one of racing victories—it is a story of creativity, determination, and an unending pursuit of new ideas.
This book chronicles the remarkable life and achievements of Pete Brock as he celebrates his 90th year in 2026.
Pete Brock did not simply design automobiles.
He designed an era.
Featuring extensive new interviews with Pete Brock himself, along with previously unpublished materials from his personal archive, this volume presents the definitive record of his extraordinary life and career—much of it revealed publicly for the first time anywhere in the world.

PETE BROCK – Biography

Pete Brock was born in New York in 1936.
Growing up during the golden age of hot rod culture, he developed a fascination with speed and design at an early age. As a teenager, he was already modifying cars, building both mechanical expertise and a distinctive design philosophy.
At the age of nineteen, Brock became the youngest designer ever hired by General Motors. During his time at GM, he produced design sketches that would influence the legendary second-generation Corvette Sting Ray.
He later joined Carroll Shelby’s team and designed the legendary Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, which helped Shelby American capture the FIA World GT Championship in 1965.
That same year, Brock founded Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE). Working closely with Datsun (now Nissan), BRE achieved tremendous success in SCCA and Trans-Am competition, earning numerous championships with the Datsun 510 and 240Z.
Throughout the decades that followed, Brock continued to apply his talents to prototype sports cars, aircraft design, and transportation trailer development, remaining active across a remarkably diverse range of engineering and design disciplines.
