Materials used to build model railroad cars can be broadly divided into three types: plastic, paper, and metal. Of these, metal construction has a long tradition and is reliable in that it does not deteriorate much over time. Brass has traditionally been used as a metal for model construction because it is easy to work with, has sufficient strength for models, and is inexpensive to obtain. Soldering is the method used to join parts when assembling a car body using this brass.
Soldering is a technique generally used to connect electrical wires by melting an alloy made primarily of lead and tin with the heat of a soldering iron, but in model making, it is significantly different from soldering wires, and it is easier to understand if you say that in model making, you just pour solder between the parts. So, what tools do you need to "pour solder" and how should you use a soldering iron? This book explains the techniques for all kinds of work situations.
This book has been revised twice, based on the 2014 edition of "Introduction to Soldering Model Railroads," and revised in 2018 as "New Reiwa Edition Introduction to Soldering Model Railroads." In particular, 16 pages of articles have been added, and two examples of construction, which were previously considered to be few, have been added. The opening page also includes a photogravure-style article introducing works assembled by soldering.
