The 50000 series VSE is the flagship of Odakyu Romance Cars, which began operation in 2005 .
It has revived the concept of an articulated structure and a front observation deck, which had once been lost, and has reigned as the ace of Hakone tourism.
However, due to its special features, future maintenance difficulties were expected, and it will be retired from the railway in December 2023 after an extremely short career of 18 years. Although the front observation cabin has been inherited by the 70000 series GSE , this marks the end of the history of the articulated Romancecar.

This book features the successive Odakyu Romance Cars that have been introduced in Rail Magazine in large articles from time to time, especially the VSE , which is now the epitome of "beauty is short-lived." It is delivered as a "collection" that can only be sent out now. The basic origins, structure, and design concepts are explained in detail along with the 60000 series MSE , GSE , and EXE α, which are sister series. The graph page, which invited reader submissions, features a selection of masterpieces.
In addition, there is a gallery of photos that have been taken over the past five years on the extremely unique theme of "The moment when two VSEs line up side by side." There is also an article about a tour that will be held on December 9th , one day before the train's retirement, in which passengers can share in the excitement.
