RM Re-Library is a reprint of two or three of the best volumes from the RM LIBRARY, which has a long history of over 260 issues.
The fifth volume of the new series follows on from the second volume, "Mani 35, 36, 37 - Variations of modified baggage cars," and focuses on JNR's baggage and mail cars, "Mani 60, 61, Suuni 60, 61." This was published as the prestigious 138th and 139th volumes of the RM Library, and includes four new pages of color graphs.
The four types we will be looking at this time are, as you can tell from the "60" series model names, steel-bodied passenger cars, that is, a series of vehicles that reuse the frames and bogies of old wooden passenger cars and manufacture new steel bodies to improve transportation (however, what's interesting about this type of model is that there are a very small number of cars that cannot be called steel-bodied...).
The Mani 60 type is the basic form of steel-bodied freight cars, and is divided into two groups: those that were born as Mani 60 type cars from the beginning when the cars were made into steel bodies, and those that were born by re-modifying other steel-bodied passenger cars. Naturally, the appearances are different, and there are also cases where the cars were modified later, or the original cars are different on paper than in reality, which makes them an endless source of interest for hobbyists. The Mani 61 type is a part of the Mani 60 type where the bogies have been changed from TR11 to TR23.
The Suuni 60 series is a combined postal and baggage car, and is composed only of cars that were born as Suuni 60 series from the beginning at the stage of steel body conversion. On the other hand, all Suuni 61 series cars are re-modified from other steel body passenger cars (including some non-steel body passenger cars). It is thought that the two types were made into different types because the baggage and mail loads are different.
In this book, these four types are first classified by series number, and as many photos of the types as possible are included to clarify the individual differences. It also includes type diagrams to deepen understanding, which will be very useful for model making. We recommend that you purchase this book as a set with RM Re-Library 2 "Mani 35, 36, 37 types - Variations of modified baggage cars" by the same author.
