In the early Showa era, the dawn of steel electric trains, so-called "ready-made" standard-design electric cars were manufactured by various vehicle manufacturers, including the Nippon Sharyo electric cars that we recently introduced in RM LIBRARY 265 and 266. Among them, the standard design electric train produced by Kawasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works was characterized by its deep roof and apparently sturdy style, and was later used by companies such as Hanshin Kyuko Railway (later Hankyu Corporation), Seibu Railway, and Meguro-Kamata Electric Railway (later Tokyu Corporation). Many of the trains were introduced by operators that became major private railways, and a total of 62 cars were supplied to six operators. It is also noteworthy that vehicles with almost the same design were also manufactured by Nippon Sharyo and Osaka Iron Works, and a total of 32 vehicles were supplied.
In this book, the standard design trains of Kawasaki Shipyard and Machinery Works and trains of similar design made by Nippon Sharyo and Osaka Iron Works, which were supplied all over the country, are grouped together as "Kawazo-type", and catalogs of the two companies are included. We will introduce the product's activities during manufacturing and its appearance after transfer, along with other details. The first volume provides an overview of each type of ``Kawazo-gata'' introduced to Seibu Railway and Meguro-Kamata Electric Railway, and introduces vehicles transferred to local private railways after retirement.
