Introducing the 12 series passenger cars in detail!

In 1969, the year after the Japan World's Fair, the 12 series passenger car was introduced as a new type of passenger car with general seats to accommodate the transportation of passengers to the World's Fair as well as the year-end and New Year holidays and Obon holidays.
The 1950s and 1960s was a time when modernization of vehicles such as limited express trains and diesel cars was promoted, and while most general passenger cars were operated with so-called old passenger cars made before and during the war, it was used as an alternative vehicle. What was planned.
While the heating system in older passenger cars was powered by steam from the steam locomotive, the 12 series is powered by a diesel generator mounted under the floor for heating and cooling. -A total of 603 cars were manufactured due to its ease of use. In the 1980s, due to the diversification of passengers, many trains were converted into so-called joyful trains such as tatami-style trains and panoramic European-style trains.

[Highlights]
This book covers the period from the introduction of the 12 series until March 1987, when the JNR service ended, and provides a detailed introduction to the 12 series passenger cars that appeared during this period.
Regarding the modified Joyful Train and Ozashiki Train, we will carefully introduce each car in the form that appeared during the Japanese National Railways era. The commentary will be provided by Goro Fujita, an authority on passenger cars and diesel cars. It is also a rich source of information on the Joyful Train, whose actual vehicle has long since been retired.
