A series of standard electric railcars designed and manufactured by Nippon Sharyo in the early Showa period were introduced not only to local private railways, but also to the private railway companies that would later become major private railways.
In particular, 30 cars were introduced to the Odawara Express Railway, the predecessor of the Odakyu Electric Railway, and were used as main locomotives. They were also introduced to the Shima Electric Railway, the predecessor of the Kintetsu Shima Line, and the Hakata Bay Railway Steamship, the predecessor of the Nishitetsu Kaizuka Line, and remained in use until around the 1970s. In addition to the above, this book also explains standard design electric trains introduced in the western Japan region, such as the Kobe-Arima Electric Railway (now the Kobe Electric Railway) and the Hirohama Railway (now the JR Kabe Line).
