In the 1960s, the Ou Main Line, which connects the four prefectures of Fukushima, Yamagata, Akita, and Aomori, was a treasure trove of quaint local private railways that were popular with enthusiasts, with small electric locomotives and electric freight cars pulling passenger cars that were larger than themselves.

This book introduces 15 local private railway lines of 10 companies along the JNR Ou Main Line in the 1960s, a time when few fans visited due to the nationwide steam locomotive boom (Fukushima Transportation Iizaka Line and Tram Line, Yamagata Transportation Takahata Line, Miyama Line and Obanazawa Line, Shonai Transportation Yunohama Line, Ugo Transportation Ogatsu Line and Yokosho Line, Akita City Transportation Bureau (Akita City Tram), Akita Chuo Transportation Tram Line, Kosaka Railway Kosaka Line, Matsuo Mining, Konan Railway Ōwani Line (formerly Hirosaki Electric Railway) and Konan Line, and Tsugaru Railway) with photographs from the time.
