Teito Electric Railway, now the Keio Inokashira Line, opened a line between Shibuya and Kichijoji between 1933 and the following year. This was the latest suburban train line to open connecting to the Yamanote Line before the war, and it stood out from the other lines in terms of its facilities and rolling stock.
The Teito Electric Railway also planned to run a line from Oimachi to Meidaimae, Itabashi, Senju, and Susaki, going around the outside of the Yamanote Line. If completed, it could be called the "second Yamanote Line," and construction work was actually underway near Meidaimae on the Teito Line with the assumption that it would connect.
The first volume of this book explains the origins of Teito Electric Railway, including the plans for the never-seen-before Yamanote Express Line, its history before and during the war, and the rolling stock used during the Teito Electric Railway era. The second volume focuses on the postwar and subsequent movements of rolling stock.
