After World War II, Japan National Railways' diesel locomotives started out as electric locomotives equipped with engines manufactured under license from overseas, but at the same time research into domestically produced engines based on pre-war technology also progressed.
As a result, the DD13 type liquid diesel locomotive appeared in 1958 (Showa 33) with the newly developed engine DMF31S.
This locomotive, which was built primarily for shunting purposes but also with a certain level of main line operation in mind, has since been deployed across Japan with repeated improvements over the course of about 10 years, bringing the total number to 416. That's what I did.
This book summarizes the history of the development of the JNR DD13 type, its outline, changes by production order, and subsequent modifications in three volumes.

[Volume 1]
After unraveling the historical background in which DD13 was introduced, and explaining the overall picture such as the design outline, manufacturing results, and manufacturing company, we will introduce the so-called low horsepower types of units 1 to 110 by production order from 1 to 6. .

[ Middle volume]
After the 7th generation car (No. 111), which had a stronger engine and a new car body design,
We will explain the changes by order up to the 16th order with many photos and materials.

[Volume 2]
Contains the remaining 17th cars that appeared in 1966 (Showa 41) to the 19th car in 1967 (Showa 42), which was the last expansion of JNR DD13, as well as
consideration of the number of cars produced and multi-layer type. We will explain about the unknown cold region type and acquired modifications.
