``RM Re-Library'' reprints two to three volumes of past masterpieces from ` `RM LIBRARY '', which has a long history of over 270 issues. The 17th volume in the series is a combination of RM Library Volumes 58 and 59 , ``Summer 1950 Hokkaido Private Railway Tour (Part 1 and Part 2)'' (authored by Eiichi Aoki).

The author is a leading researcher on private railways in various regions, but his life's work began with a 19 -day trip to Hokkaido during his student days. During this trip, he visited most of the private railways in Hokkaido that were in operation at the time (including simple tracks and dedicated lines), and kept detailed records. The results of this research have been reflected in numerous research books and articles to date, but I feel that this book has great value as a stand-alone travelogue that once again summarizes the fresh sensibilities of young people at the time.

In addition, most of the private railways in Hokkaido have now been abolished, and it can be said that it is noteworthy in terms of the transformation of the industrial structure and the loss of local industry.

In 1952 , on his way back to Japan, the author boarded the Seikan ferry ``Toya Maru'' and returned safely to Tokyo. However, one month later, the Toya Maru sank in a typhoon ... It can be said that this is an emotional book in many ways.
